  • RIP George Carlin

I saw George Carlin do his act in April.  It was unforgetable.

Some of my favorite lines of his:

Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things.

This from the National Apple Coucil: F&*# Pears!

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

People who say they don't care what people think are usually desperate to have people think they don't care what people think.

The very existence of flame-throwers proves that some time, somewhere, someone said to themselves, You know, I want to set those people over there on fire, but I'm just not close enough to get the job done

  • Dress Project Worked!

I was amazed at how easily my dress project was...

I sewed between each little rhinestone on the necklace, and they ended up looking like they were floating there.

Here is a picture of the entire dress (it is actually longer than this, but it is a two-piece skirt and most of the skirt is under the dress top.

After all of that... I did not get a picture of me wearing it.  We were at a Gala with a bunch of Craig's customers, so I didn't feel it appropriate to take a camera and ask others to take a photo of us.

  • Dress or Craft Project?

Well I think I found my dress for the formal event we are attending in Puerto Rico!  It is actually a 2 pieces set, with a longer-than-knee length black layered chiffon skirt.  It has a V-Neck Top and a hem to match the skirt.

The V-neck top is sufficiently modest, for maximum coverage, but it is kind of boring.

I have a plan to spice it up… but I think it might be crazy.

I went to Harwin (fabulous area of town where one can obtain fashion jewelry for a pittance) and bought a necklace.

The necklace is rhinestones (trying to look like a diamond necklace---think Prom).  The rhinestones come to a ‘V’ and have a couple of rhinestone dangles.

I want to make the dress more formal by sewing the necklace onto the neckline of the dress.  I want to cover-up the construction of the necklace by sewing over the silver that connects one ‘diamond’ to another.  So hopefully it will look like a diamond edge to my top.

I am getting kind of worried about it though, because most of my craft projects have been tried before and often have tutorials all over the internet.  I can’t find one, so I am afraid I might ruin the top.  But I have a vision and it’s a risk I am willing to take.  I will post pictures once completed.

    Guilty Pleasures

I have been reading and loving the Southern Vampire Books by Charlaine Harris.  Apparently she has been releasing 1 book a year for several years now, and I didn't know.

The characters are based in Louisiana, but instead of your normal dark dramas about vampires.  These stories funny, romantic and compelling.

Anyway, it is a guilty pleasure of mine and I have been reading for the past few months every single book.  I have also forced a couple of friends to read every single book.

Now, I find out, that HBO has been filming the TV version of these books.  And Alan Ball is the writer.  I never saw 6 feet under, but I certainly saw American beauty.    So I am excited, I think that is the right mix of dark and humor that I get from the books.

Now I am waiting for September to see 'True Blood' (that is the name of the TV adaptation if you couldn't tell).
